Hanen “It Takes Two to Talk”
“It Takes Two to Talk” is a program for parents of children who have been identified as having a language delay (birth to 5 years). Parents learn practical strategies to help promote language development in their children. At Express Yourself speech the speech-language pathologists also use the principles of “It Takes Two to Talk” directly with children in one on one therapy sessions.
Hanen “More Than Words”
“More Than Words” is a program for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other social communication challenges. More Than Words helps build skills that promote interaction and play with others. At Express Yourself speech the speech-language pathologists also use principles of “More Than Words” directly with children who have social communication challenges in one on one sessions.
The Lidcombe Program
The Lidcombe Program is used with preschool children (younger than 6) who are stuttering. This program is implemented by a parent or caregiver with the help of a speech-language pathologist in weekly visits.
Social Thinking
The Social Thinking program provides resources that help children with their social emotional development through worksheets, videos and age appropriate books.
Ascend SMARTER Intervention
The SMARTER Intervention program from Ascend Learning Center is a comprehensive and structured reading and writing program. This program is research based and includes the key components of literacy: reading comprehension, reading fluency, vocabulary, semantics, phonics and phonological awareness. The program helps to get struggling students onto grade level and beyond.
PROMPT
The Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT) program is a multidimensional approach for speech production disorders. It involves the use of touch cues to a client’s jaw, tongue and lips to guide them through a word, phrase or sentence. It helps with motor control and helps to eliminate muscle movements such as jaw sliding. The PROMPT approach helps to facilitate production and/or revise production of speech. This approach can be used for children 6 months and up.
Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP)
The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP) is a treatment approach used for children with apraxia or other speech disorders. Children who are having difficulties with the structure of certain words are taught to simplify words and produce the best “word approximation” towards a target word. This is then moved into functional language.
